Real Deal Pizza Sauce

You’ll never buy store-bought again! Seriously. Really. This is a five minute pizza sauce and is legit. The real deal! Like, the you start crushing the tomatoes and Italian music bellows into your kitchen kind of real deal.

Your shopping list:
A 28 ounce can of certified, italian-imported San Marzano peeled tomatoes. This is the important part here. I used Cento in mine, which I find at Trader Joe’s and my local grocery store. If you can’t find those, take a second while shopping and google to double check the quality.

Okay, okay… I’m done being fancy.

Basil. You’ll just need 1-2 leaves (depending on size)

Salt and sugar.

See? All the annoying talk about the tomatoes, but the rest couldn’t be more basic!

Very finely chop 1 basil leaf– 1.5 if they are on the small side.
Pour the tomatoes -and juices from the can– into a bowl, and hand crush with a potato masher.

Add your sugar, salt, and finely chopped basil and give a stir. And most importantly here… give it a taste!

:: NOTE- Depending on your brand of tomatoes, and how sweet vs. acidic they are, you may need to add a tiny bit more salt, or sugar, to balance things out. You can optionally add in some oregano or garlic. But add things in very small increments and taste as you go… trust your taste buds here. We don’t want something like too much salt or garlic to outshine our new fancy tomato friends!

Let the sauce mingle in the fridge for at least an hour, but a few hours would be better!

And that’s it. I told you! Why would you ever buy the jarred stuff now that you can make the best in just a few minutes?
